Sports Clubs

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What should I do if I can't make the Information Meeting or First Session?
A: As long as the sport club still has space available, you can join anytime throughout the term. To get involved simply contact the club through the e-mail listed on the club specific page, or attend one of the clubs regular weekly sessions. You can also contact the Campus Recreation Sport Clubs Coordinator at ext. 36340 for more information.

Q: How many Sport Clubs can I join? And, can I join for more than one term?
A: You can join as many sport clubs as you would like! There is no limit. The sport clubs registration runs term by term, just like all of our other programming and your academic classes. You are more than welcome to register term after term, but you will need to pay and fill out all the required forms each and every term.

Q: Do I have to know anything about the sport club activity before I join, or on the contrary, what if I know a lot about the sport club activity, will it be worth my while to join?
A: All of our sport clubs are for all skill levels, whether you are beginner or advanced. The clubs have a lot to offer besides just the activity itself. Many of the clubs have social events, trips, and tournaments that you can get involved with.  If you are more advanced, consider taking on a volunteer leadership role within the club.

Q: Do I have to attend every sport club session?
A: No! That's what the sport clubs are all about; you attend as many sessions as often as you would like. You set your own schedule.

Q: I would like to start up a new sport club, is this possible, and how do I go about doing so?

Yes, it is possible to start up a new sport club. The first step is to meet with the Sport Clubs Coordinator to make sure this is a sport the department can manage.  If the sport is approved there is a one year probationary period that each sport must go through before being granted official Campus Recreation Sport Club status.

Q: I'm a University of Waterloo student, but I'm not taking any courses this term (i.e. local co-op job, local during the summer etc.), can I still participate in the sport clubs?
A: Because you have not paid the "Student Services Fee", you will need to purchase an Athletics & Recreational Services Membership in order to participate in any of our programming, or to gain access to the use of our facilities. Membership fees are posted under "General Information". You will then be required to pay the fee listed for any sport club you are interested in joining.

Q: I'm an alumni, staff, or faculty member of the University of Waterloo, can I still participate in the clubs?
A: You will need to purchase an Affiliated Athletics & Recreational Services Membership in order to participate in any of our programming, or to gain access to the use of our facilities. Membership fees are posted under "General Information". You will then be required to pay the fee listed for any club you are interested in joining.

Q: I'm a community member not affiliated in anyway with the University of Waterloo, can I still participate in the clubs?
A: Unfortunately no. The demand of our student population is at an all-time high, and we do not have the capacity to accommodate community members.
